BENGALURU. पूरे देश में सात मार्च को होलिका दहन की तैयारी चल रही है। मगर, इस दौरान भारतीय अंतरिक्ष अनुसंधान संगठन (इसरो) एक बेहद चुनौतीपूर्ण मिशन को अंजाम देने जा रहा है। वह अपना जीवनकाल पूरा कर चुके मौसम उपग्रह मेघा-ट्रॉपिक्स-1 को पृथ्वी की निचली कक्षा में प्रवेश कराने के लिए तैयार है और इसके बाद इसे प्रशांत महासागर में गिराया जाएगा।
एमटी1 को उष्णकटिबंधीय मौसम और जलवायु अध्ययन के लिए 12 अक्टूबर 2011 को लॉन्च किया गया था। यह इसरो और फ्रांसीसी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी सीएनईएस के संयुक्त उपग्रह उद्यम के रूप में अंतरिक्ष में भेजा गया था। इसरो ने रविवार को एक बयान में कहा कि हालांकि उपग्रह का मिशन जीवन मूल रूप से तीन साल था। मगर, यह 2021 तक क्षेत्रीय और वैश्विक जलवायु के साथ एक दशक से अधिक समय तक मूल्यवान डेटा भेजता रहा।
ISRO अब एक बेहद चुनौतीपूर्ण प्रायोगिक मिशन के तहत सात मार्च को इसे नियंत्रित तरीके से धरती के वातावरण में लाएगा और अंतत: प्रशांत महासागर में एक निर्जन स्थान पर गिरा दिया जाएगा। बताते चलें कि लगभग 1,000 किलोग्राम वजनी एमटी1 का कक्षीय जीवनकाल, 867 किमी की ऊंचाई की 20 डिग्री झुकी हुई कक्षा में घूम रहा है।
वैज्ञानिकों ने बताया कि यह 100 वर्ष से अधिक समय तक यहां रह सकता है। मगर, इसमें लगभग 125 किलोग्राम ऑन-बोर्ड ईंधन है, जो मिशन के अंत में अनुपयोगी रहा था। यह आकस्मिक ब्रेक-अप के लिए जोखिम पैदा कर सकता था। इसलिए प्रशांत महासागर में एक निर्जन स्थान पर इसे गिराने की योजना बनाई गई है।
अब संयुक्त राष्ट्र के इंटर एजेंसी अंतरिक्ष मलबा समन्वय समिति (यूएन/आइएडीसी) के दिशानिर्देशों के अनुसार, पृथ्वी की निचली कक्षा (LEO) से हटाना है। एजेंसी के तय मानकों के अनुसार, इसे ऐसी कक्षा में लाया जाना चाहिए, जहां उसका जीवनकाल 25 साल से कम हो। लगभग एक हजार किलोग्राम वजनी मेघा ट्रापिक्स 867 किमी की ऊंचाई वाली कक्षा में है।
